At Alt-Ed Lincs, we work with young people who may have experienced significant barriers to education. Our focus is on rebuilding trust, confidence and engagement with learning.
90% average attendance in 2025/26
For learners who had previously struggled to access education, in some cases for several years, individual attendance ranged from 72% to 100%.
The starting point
This learner came to Alt-Ed Lincs having been unable to access education for approximately three years, with virtually no school attendance during that time.
Our approach
Rather than immediately focusing on academic expectations, we concentrated on building trust, establishing a positive relationship and creating an environment in which attending education felt manageable.
The outcome
The learner successfully re-engaged with education and went on to achieve approximately 95% attendance at Alt-Ed Lincs.
For a young person who had been unable to access education for several years, simply attending consistently represented a significant change.
The starting point
This learner was extremely quiet and found it difficult to maintain concentration and remain on task. He produced very little written work and showed limited engagement with academic activities.
Our approach
Through consistent support, manageable expectations and relationship-based learning, we encouraged him to work at his own pace while gradually increasing expectations around concentration, completion and presentation.
The outcome
We have seen a significant change in his attitude towards learning.
He now produces considerably more work, maintains concentration for longer and takes real pride in the presentation and quality of what he produces.
Most importantly, his commitment to academic learning has grown significantly.
Personalised service tailored to your unique needs.
The starting point
This learner initially found attending education extremely difficult. She could be a flight risk, sometimes refused to attend and had very little confidence in her academic ability, particularly in English.
Formal examinations felt completely out of reach.
Our approach
We prioritised trust and rapport and used the learner's own interests to make education meaningful. Her passion for women's football became the inspiration for a piece of poetry, allowing her to engage with English in a way that felt relevant to her.
Alongside academic learning, we worked consistently on confidence, resilience and her belief in her own ability.
The outcome
Her attendance improved significantly and she:
The biggest achievement wasn't one certificate or award. It was the change from a young person who did not believe academia was for her to one who was willing to try.
For some young people, Alt-Ed Lincs provides a longer-term alternative learning environment. For others, it provides the space they need to rebuild confidence and resilience before returning to school.
We have successfully supported a number of learners to re-engage with and return to full-time education following their time with us.
Sometimes success is a qualification. Sometimes it's returning to school. And sometimes, after years away from education, success begins simply by walking through the door.
