Why Choose Alt Ed Lincs

Proven Results

For some young people, the register read one word: Absent.

Not occasionally. Not intermittently.
Just… not there.

When Alt-Ed Lincs opened in September 2024, our intention wasn’t to create a holding space. It was to create somewhere young people could reset — somewhere structured, calm and relational enough to rebuild trust in education. Eighteen months on, the shift is visible.

Across our current cohort, average attendance sits at 90%. Thirty percent of learners are achieving 100% attendance, with 40% sustaining 95% or above. Two learners who had been total non-attenders for years are now consistently attending at 67% and 72%.

Those figures matter — not because they look impressive on paper, but because of what they represent: anxiety reducing, routines rebuilding and confidence returning. Attendance improves when young people feel safe. It improves when expectations are clear. It improves when relationships are strong. This year has been about building those foundations.

Learning in Action

Re-engagement is only the starting point. Achievement follows.

Since September 2025, learners have achieved 12 AQA Unit Award Scheme certificates, spanning media, photography, gardening, animal care, food and social skills. We are currently averaging two to three accredited units per month, with momentum continuing into the Spring term.

Several learners are also completing Level 2 Food Hygiene certificates, gaining recognised qualifications that support independence, employability and real-world readiness.

Daily provision remains practical and purposeful: creative media work in our upgraded classroom, structured Living Independently projects, guitar sessions building perseverance, cooking sessions strengthening sequencing and teamwork, and animal-supported learning supporting regulation and calm engagement.

Learning here is not abstract. It is tangible. Earned. Evidenced.

Standards & Milestones

Alongside day-to-day progress, this year has brought important milestones.

In August 2025, Alt-Ed Lincs received the Prestige Award for Education Support Initiative of the Year.
In 2026, we were awarded the UK Business Awards Community Impact Award.

We are voluntarily registered with Ofsted, approved on Lincolnshire County Council’s Open Select List, and have been awarded a 5★ Food Hygiene rating.

These markers reflect the standards we hold ourselves to — high expectations, strong safeguarding and accountable practice — while remaining firmly relationship-led at our core.

From Us

Harriet Burtenshaw, Co-Founder

“Watching a learner begin to socialise again, try something new or simply walk through the door without fear is something we never take for granted. Those quiet milestones matter.”

Katherine Nicholson, Co-Founder

“Engagement has always been our starting point. When young people feel safe and connected, everything else begins to shift. The attendance and accreditation outcomes we’re seeing are a reflection of that foundation.”

Community Impact Award 2026

"Alt-Ed Lincs receives the Community Impact Award. Built from the ground up, the provision delivers structured, supportive learning tailored to complex individual needs. By sustaining this work locally over time, Alt-Ed Lincs demonstrates community impact grounded in responsibility rather than short-term intervention."
